Commissioning of Solar Energy System at Lomaloma Subdivisional Hospital | 26 March 2026

The Fiji Oxygen Programme celebrated a significant milestone with the commissioning of a solar energy system at Lomaloma Subdivisional Hospital on Vanua Balavu.

Funded by the New Zealand Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade (MFAT), the project was delivered through a collaborative partnership led by Cure Kids Fiji and the Ministry of Health and Medical Services (MHMS) Oxygen Programme, with support from the University of Auckland, Live & Learn Environmental Education, Azimut 360, and Fiji National University.

The installation was completed by CBS Power Solutions (Fiji) Ltd under the technical oversight of Azimut 360 and the MHMS Pharmaceutical and Biomedical Services team.

The solar energy system strengthens the hospital’s capacity to deliver reliable healthcare services by improving access to sustainable and resilient energy infrastructure. Reliable power is critical for the operation of essential medical equipment, including oxygen systems that support patient care in remote and maritime health facilities.

Expanding Sustainable Healthcare Infrastructure

In addition to Lomaloma Subdivisional Hospital, the project successfully delivered and commissioned solar energy systems at three other healthcare facilities:

  • Korotasere Health Centre
  • Yaqeta Nursing Station
  • Yanuya Nursing Station

These installations contribute to strengthening healthcare service delivery in remote communities while supporting Fiji’s broader goals of sustainability and climate resilience.

A Collaborative Achievement

The successful delivery of this project reflects the value of strong partnerships and a shared commitment to improving health outcomes for communities across Fiji.

Cure Kids Fiji extends its sincere appreciation to the New Zealand Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade, the Ministry of Health and Medical Services, the staff of Lomaloma Subdivisional Hospital, and the people of Vanua Balavu for their support and collaboration throughout the project.

Together, we continue to strengthen healthcare infrastructure and improve access to essential health services for communities across Fiji.
